Biography
Pavlo Titiaiev is a prize-winning trombonist and principal trombone of the Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo. Equally active as a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed across Europe, Japan, and the USA, and has premiered numerous contemporary works for trombone.
He began playing trombone at the age of 13 with his father, Andrii Titiaiev, and later studied under Prof. Michał Mazurkiewicz at the Katowice Music University (Poland, 2016–2018), Prof. Jonas Bylund at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (Germany, 2018–2021), and Prof. Jamie Williams and Tomer Maschkowski at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre (Germany, 2021–2023).
Pavlo has been awarded prizes in over 15 international competitions, including the International Trombone Competition in Lieksa (Finland), the Tokyo Music Competition (Japan), the ITA Gilberto Gagliardi, Alto Trombone, and Robert Marsteller Competitions (USA), the Golden Classical Music Awards (New York, USA), and competitions in Budapest, Brno, Wrocław, Kyiv, Odessa, Bytom, and others.
As a soloist, he has appeared with the Aichi Chamber Orchestra (Japan), the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Collegium Musicum Orchestra (now Ukrainian Festival Orchestra), the Cantabile Chamber Orchestra (Ukraine), the Chernivtsi Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Gdańsk Music Academy (Poland).
Pavlo actively collaborates with contemporary composers and has premiered around ten new works, including the suite Family Circle for trombone and piano and a set of solo trombone caprices by Valerii Marchenko. He is also known for his wide-ranging repertoire, which includes transcriptions of works originally written for wind, string, piano, and vocal instruments.
He was a scholarship recipient of Live Music Now (Germany) and has participated in masterclasses with Christian Lindberg, Jörgen van Rijen, Joseph Alessi, and others.
Pavlo has released four albums — Après un rêve (2020), Melody (2022), American Rhapsodies (2023), and 12 Fantasias(2024) — each reflecting his ongoing interest in exploring and expanding the trombone’s solo and chamber repertoire.
